Vital Reasons For Infertility – Authored By Dr. Devika Gunasheela

Infertility is one of the major factors affecting the people in modern times. If we take global average into consideration, 15% of people suffer from infertility issues. This percentage differs among different communities of the world. While it is possible to identify certain causes of infertility, at the same time, it is also difficult to identify a few exact causes related to it. Among 15% of the issues, there remain around 10% of causes unidentified.

What Is Infertility:

What is infertility? Medically it can be stated as the state of being unable to conceive or impregnate within 12months after regular sexual intercourse with a frequency of twice or thrice a week.

Types Of Infertility:

There are 2 types of infertility namely, first and second stage of infertility. The first stage of infertility refers to the state where the couple have never been able to reach conception. The second stage of infertility refers to the state where the woman has conceived in the past, but now being unable to conceive.

The important considerable factors affecting infertility are the time of intercourse, time after intercourse and the time the gap between regular intercourses. If the time gap between regular intercourses is one week, the chances of pregnancy is about 17%. Likewise, there is a chance of pregnancy of about 50% if the couple is having regular intercourse thrice a week (within 6 months of time).

The Frequency Of Intercourse:

The time of having sexual intercourse is also very important. The chance of pregnancy is more, before the release of oocytes in a woman’s body. The sperm stays active in a woman’s genital tract for about 5 days but oocytes stay active for only about a day. Hence during or before the oocyte release, the sperm should be available in woman’s genital tract. Only then, it is possible to arrive at a successful pregnancy.

As far as infertility is concerned, there may be one or more issues related to men and women. Male and female both are almost equally responsible for infertility. In 20% of the cases, deficiencies in both male & female could be the reasons. Hence to better identify the reasons of infertility, both male and female should be tested and examined with various infertility pre-tests.

The Causes That Cannot Be Precautiously Prevented:

A few reasons of infertility could be precautiously prevented and a few cannot be prevented. The causes which cannot be precautiously prevented are mostly related to the physical characteristics of the body, hereditary factors, hormonal imbalance, immunity and other elements. Due to these elements, there’s about 5% of infertility on a global average.

The Causes That Can Be Precautiously Prevented:

The causes which can be precautiously prevented are related to lifestyle. These change as per the situation. These can be prevented immediately or before these problems reach advanced stages if all the preventive measures are taken properly. These issues may affect & can reduce the reproductive ability of a person even though they may not destroy the reproductive potential. The unhealthy lifestyle may actually result in an abnormal pregnancy with adverse effects.

The lifestyle matters affect our general health and also affect the reproductive abilities. For example, smoking or obesity may have negative effects on our general health as well as reproduction potential.

The Other Important Factors Affecting Infertility:

The other important factors affecting infertility, include age, weight, smoking, diet and other related.

Before making the decision about treatment for any health procedure, it is always important to know the important reasons behind it. Without knowing these, you may end up in losing money and time. Especially, when it comes to infertility, it is very essential to identify all possible reasons.

A BETTER IDENTIFICATION OF A CAUSE WILL EVENTUALLY LEAD TO A BETTER ACTION:
